Teaching adults flute and saxophone in Amsterdam

Who We Are

We are a father and son team who teach adults flute and saxophone in classical, jazz and pop styles.  Whether you are a complete beginner, played for a few years as a kid or are an experienced musician, we can help on your musical journey. Tommy the dog and Rua the jazz cat often attend lessons.

Paul Fitzpatrick: saxophone and flute

Paul Fitzpatrick (above left) teaches classical and pop saxophone and flute. He has over 20 years of experience teaching students from complete beginners to advanced players. Paul creates a warm environment where students learn at their own pace with helpful guidance.

Paul was born into musical family in Dublin and played Irish whistle and concert flute from an early age. He played in folk, pop and rock bands touring Ireland before studying classical saxophone at the Dublin Conservatory of Music where he earned a degree in Music Teaching and an M.A in Music Technology.

Paul taught both adults and kids for many years at the Abbey school of Music in Dublin and the British school of Amsterdam. He also taught the International Baccalaureate program at the Amsterdam International School.

BeN Fitzpatrick: Saxophone

Ben Fitzpatrick (above right) is Paul’s son and teaches jazz saxophone in English. Ben is first tenor saxophone with Germany’s WDR Big Band, one of the best jazz big bands in the world. At 23, Ben was the WDR’s youngest ever hire and had already won multiple awards including the 2021 Grachtenfestival Jazz Competition (NL), the 2019 Expression of Art Award (NL), the 2016 Louis Armstrong award (US) for Jazz and many more.

Born in Dublin, Ben moved to Connecticut at the age of nine. While still a teenager, he performed multiple times in Carnegie Hall (The New York Times described his solo performances as "sultry" and "shining") and regularly subbed for saxophonist Ted Nash in Wynton Marsalis’s Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra band. His primary baritone saxophone teacher was the late Duke Ellington orchestra veteran, Joe Temperley.

Tommy and Rua: VIBES

Tommy the dog likes to attend lessons, especially when students bring him treats. Rua the jazz cat prefers to curl up in saxophone cases.
